Mystery Science Reviews

I really wanted Mystery Science to work for us, and I gave it a fair try because I know a lot of teachers like it. But for our curriculum map, it just didn’t line up well enough. Some lessons felt a little too basic, while other areas didn’t really cover what our grade level is expected to teach. I’m not trying to be overly picky, but when you’re planning around standards, it has to save time, not create more work. I ended up spending more time modifying lessons and looking for extra materials than actually using it as-is. It could be great for fun science activities or enrichment, but for standards-based planning, it was frustrating

I tried using these lessons with my class, but they felt dull. Most of my students checked out after just a few minutes, and I had to put in way more effort than expected to keep them engaged.

I really wanted to like this, but the videos were hard to sit through. The quality felt a little rough, the sound wasn’t great, and the pacing was just... not exactly exciting. My kid checked out quickly, which I can’t really blame them for. Maybe it works for some families, but for us, it definitely wasn’t worth it.

The lessons are fine overall, but yeah... the teacher support materials feel limited. I was expecting more clear guides, extra worksheets, and maybe some practical help for mixed-level classes.
Some of the videos explain things well enough, but when students get stuck, there just isn’t much to fall back on. It saves me time at first, sure, but then I end up making my own materials anyway.

I was hoping the activities would be easier to follow, but they felt kind of rushed and... a little confusing at times.

The lessons were okay overall, and my kids seemed to enjoy a few of the videos here and there. But for what it costs, I guess I was expecting a little more. Some of it felt kind of basic, and I still ended up looking for extra materials on my own. It’s definitely not bad, but for our family it didn’t quite feel worth the price. I’d maybe consider renewing if it were cheaper.
